Dylan Dunlap - “Better Alone”

Dylan Dunlap has tapped into the healing power of isolation with his new track, “Better Alone.” We pressed play because we can completely empathize, then we decided to feature the track on our blog because of how fantastic it sounds.

Better Alone” opens with an acoustic guitar strumming out the rhythm as an ethereal slide guitar provides a ghostly melody. We were already fans before the vocals had a chance to begin, but once Dunlap’s voice appears, listeners will be amazed at how wonderfully he delivers the lyrics. The song was pitched to us as dream pop, but all of the evidence suggests that it would blend in quite nicely with the indie folk genre.

The refrain elevates to a professional level of production, with every instrument perfectly placed and vocals that climb into a falsetto. Once the chorus has completed, the song reveals some well placed piano and some “ooooh” backing vocals that, again, offer an airtight soundscape. While this track would likely work very well as a solo performance, we are deeply invested in all of the first-rate elements that the track offers our ears.

Better Alone” is the second single from Dunlap’s upcoming EP, When You’re Feeling Blue, so be sure to keep your ears to the ground for the announcement of its release.
