NUTANA - “Ave H Blue”

If you’ve been paying attention to the blog, you’ll know that we’ve really been vibing with modern music that has a 1970s flair. And on that note, we are excited to share with you “Ave H Blue,” the delightfully retro sounding single from Sam Corbett, aka NUTANA.

Corbett starts off the song with a collection of glorious elements– acoustic guitar, bass, drums, and one of the most triumphant sounds of all time: the lap steel. In fact, all of us at UpToHear were joking that if we hadn’t started the blog, we could have, instead, used the time to learn how to play this wonderful instrument. And as we’ve said before, steel guitar often acts as the missing ingredient to these folksier numbers, providing a melodious pad that ties together the entire production, adding depth and mood. Combine that with this already perfect mix and you will find that Corbett is really onto something here.

The vocals sound as though Corbet has taken the liberty of doubling them, which is many artists’ secret weapon in widening their soundscape and providing a thicker delivery. In any case, they are quite soothing as they glide along the instrumental and the occasional harmony really brings “Ave H Blue” to life. If you fancy the sounds of Wilco and The Shins, you are really going to love what’s in store for you once you press play.
