It Is - “Existence/Essence”

It Is, from the USA, have just release, “Existence/Essence,” a mesmerizing psychedelic journey full of sounds that dissolve into each other.

The guitar tones that form the backbone of the song are reminiscent of classic psychedelic music. The tones are present on Pink Floyd to Tame Impala records. The guitar rolls out notes that blend beautifully with the organ, which feels like it is melting into the arrangement. The different notes being played all merge into each other, creating a bright pad for the song.

Existence/Essence starts slow, but picks up pace with the addition of unusual key sounds, leading to a key solo. The drums and bass lock into a tight and funky groove, and the music gradually intensifies. It creates a satisfying sound collage as they lead you into a crescendo of noise. The music seamlessly transitions back to the original groove after band give you a healthy dose of their creativity and musicianship.

The vocals are muffled and buried deep in the mix, with a shoegaze-type vibe, but they add to the overall feel of the song. They have a “strung out” quality to them that perfectly adds to that psychedelic vibe.

The band says the song is about “The feeling when another BAND opens right around the corner. Thankfully your cult following has your back.” Overall, “Existence/Essence” is a must-listen for fans of psychedelic music. It is creative, filled with grooves and textures, and the perfect music to get lost in. I am a fan.
