DÜÜL SUNS - “Jealousy”
DÜÜL SUNS from Brooklyn, New York, have just released their effervescent debut indie psych single, “Jealousy.”
“Jealousy” is just one of those modern psych songs that hits the spot as soon as you press play. With opiate lullaby like layers sparkling under a hazy hint of bittersweetness. This is definitely not a Tame Impala copycat band. Instead DÜÜL SUNS are luring us down a rabbit hole that is occupied by bands like the melodically delicate Byrds or The Turtles. There is also a slight melodic similarity to the astoundingly underrated “You Showed Me” that both bands released. Musically, however, “Jealousy” is a moodier, prog-rockish offering to the musical Gods.
From the very first notes we are submerged into soft, dreamlike atmospherics of pillowy keys and floating guitar lines that weave of pulse with a sweet staccato groove. Underneath the vintage vibes really come home with the baroque pop crossed with John Densmore drumming patterns and fluid basslines. In the crescendo the track unspools into a lysergic wave of textural guitar work that seems set on dissolving your mind.
Poetic and velvety, the intimate vocals float across this hypnotising layer of music with a lush, washed-out vintage vibe. “Jealousy” is an utterly beguiling slice of indie psych rock that will have you longing for the days when throwing a peace sign or wearing hand painted clothing was “far out.”
