Glenn Echo - “Hello Grace!”
Matt Gaydar, aka Glenn Echo, from Brooklyn, New York, has just released the sublimely intimate indie folk track, “Hello Grace!”
“Hello Grace!” musically has the vibe of Elliott Smith haunting John Lennon’s Tittenhurst Park with an old four track tape recorder. Hushed, wistful, the composition opens to a close mic’d, mellow toned acoustic guitar. Fingerpicking a thoughtful, mesmeric pattern the opening can only be described as weary but incredibly warm.
The delicate, demo-like introduction breaks at the mid-way point as Glenn Echo envelops us into an elegantly simple ostinato motif built on the gentle push of percussion, breezy mellotron, curls of electric guitar and the tender support of a deep bass.
Glenn Echo complements the tender composition with a vocal that barely rises above a whisper. Accompanied by light harmonies, the whole performance feels as if we are being led into another world. Lyrically, the track explores living in one’s head, overstimulation, being at the mercy of the earth and the feeling of being free.
“Hello Grace!” is one of those tracks that is not flashy in any musical sense, but instead brims with a soothing sense of intent. The kind of intent that is determined on lulling us into a daydream or a spell, much like a lullaby.
