DIMILA - “Tornado”

When we last heard from Munich-based singer-songwriter DIMILA, we vowed that she would find her way onto the blog again. And today we make good on that promise with “Tornado,” a gentle, folksy number that we simply cannot get enough of.

Tornado” begins with the percussive plucks of muted strings atop the steady pulse of a kick drum. The vibe is remarkably lo-fi and authentic and there is evidence scattered throughout the soundscape that this is real music crafted by actual human beings.

DIMILA’s vocal arrives, just as majestic as we recall it to be, raw and untainted by digital manipulation and perfectly matching the mood of the arrangement. Her breathy and emotive delivery is bound to capture the interest of many listeners as she wonderfully delivers the first line of lyrics: “I fake my feelings.”

Elements are added and removed to bring “Tornado” a steady sense of ebb and flow, like the arrival and departure of the bass and the subtle addition of percussive elements. There are also some otherworldly relics of sound that make their way across the sonic space, but the true star of this show is DIMILA’s voice, and we’re sure that you’ll feel the same once you get this song into your ears.

Tornado” is an ambient and cinematic look into one-sided love, which, as DIMILA adds, often leads to “the dilemma of either continuing to feign emotions or swiftly extricating oneself from this situation before a ‘Tornado‘ devastates and worsens everything.” After hearing this song on a loop since its release, one thing is for certain: if DIMILA sings it, we will listen.
