Caleb Darger - “Matter of Time”

Salt Lake City-based singer-songwriter Caleb Darger has recently released the chill, folksy vibes of “Matter of Time.”

If you happen to be fans of Delta Sprint or Kurt Vile, with a bit of Bob Dylan thrown into the mix for good measure, you’re going to feel right at home when you press that play button. A bit of bare, acoustic guitar gets things started, but it isn’t long at all before the bus stops to pick up some more musical passengers, completing its robust arrangement.

Above a gently propelled rhythm section, the tasty sounds of a harmonica permeate the soundscape with a rich, nostalgic flavor. “Matter of Time” is immediately recognizable as one of those tunes that is going to make you feel good, simply for having it in your ears. And between the zesty lead guitar licks and vintage mojo, you will likely have difficulty picking your favorite part.

But it is Darger’s worn-in and authentic vocal performance that has ultimately won us over, as he has the remarkable gift of sounding like he’s doing exactly what he was born to do. The lyrics roll out of him in an effortless fashion, resonating with the listener as though his words are one of the few remaining truths in the world.

A delightful vocal harmony eventually arrives, further cementing the idea that we’ve stumbled onto something quite magnificent with “Matter of Time.” And with a gritty guitar solo to serve up a heaping stack of ear candy, we have a feeling that you’ll be returning to this introspective track, again and again.
