Bleary - “925”

Nashville, TN-based shoegazers Bleary return with the new single “925,” a song that taps into the burnout and existential frustration of modern work life.

There are few feelings more universal than being trapped in the draining cycle of day-to-day existence– go to work, come home, and do it all over again. Within the stacks of songs about broken hearts and nostalgia, it’s refreshing to come across a track that reflects something a bit closer to everyday existence: “925.”

Bleary’s previous releases have taught us that they’re going to hit us with an earworm melody straight out of the gate, and that’s exactly what happens here. We’re not quite sure if it’s a synth or an effect-laden guitar, but whatever it is, it’s the kind of hook that sinks directly into your bloodstream.

The energetic beat of “925” propels the song forward with a sense of purpose, while multitracked vocals create a shared experience– anyone who’s ever had a job will feel every last bit of this tune. Chugging guitar chords seem to mock the seconds we lose every time we clock in.

The overdriven guitar lead acts as a contrast to the almost dreamy nature of the verse, bringing a welcome balance of tension and release. “925” is a shoegaze track that captures the burnout of modern work life, landing squarely in that sweet spot reserved for Lush, Swervedriver, and Ride, and it’s yours wherever you get your music.
