Dublin four-piece band Big Sleep have just released the indie rock track “Don’t You Wanna,” a banger that is all about letting it all loose and having fun.
Danceable, charmingly nonchalant, “Don’t You Wanna” marches to the relentless, upbeat snap of the snare, driving the composition forward spiritedly whilst the kick drum lends an off-kilter heartbeat. Supported by bouncing staccato bass lines, the rhythm has an infectious amount of space and all the hallmarks of something you might want to bop to.
Providing sublime melodic flourishes and hooks are the loose, playful electric guitars. They weave and ring out with ease shifting from bright, jangly, chiming notes to loveable grit and shimmering warmth. The playing injects engaging dynamic shifts in all the right places and adds a lush amount of unpredictably over the hypnotic beat.
Warm, slightly raspy, the conversational vocal is rich in personality and delivered with a soulful laid-back vibe that is hard to resist. Opening up over the choruses it injects a lush sense of urgency while remaining approachable. The delivery never ventures into soaring territory, yet it is the kind of performance that is bound to be hollered back at gigs, transforming the song into an instant anthem.
