The Sways - “Feels Like Déjà vu”

The Sways from the USA return to the blog with the lush indie rock ballad “Feels Like Déjà vu.”

Feels Like Déjà vu,” from start to finish, holds the feeling of a sun-bleached wave majestically breaking on a beach, drenching you in reflective, soul stirring melodies. Sounds roll over you and you are simply helpless as it pulls you immersively under into a slow-motion daydream.

One of the great aspects of The Sways is that they consistently compose tracks that feel familiar without ever lapsing into imitation. They touch parts of your subconscious that you had forgotten were there or tug on the same emotional treads you may relate to only certain songs. So poetically “Feels Like Déjà vu” lives up to this feeling. A feeling that is hard to describe but sits somewhere between the yearning “Wicked Game” of Chris Isaak and ethereal “Mermaids” of Paul Weller.

Musically, the song shimmers with meticulously layered guitars and achingly beautiful lead guitar. Embraced tenderly by steady percussion and anchoring bass, the production is nothing short of pristine. Yet the undeniable star of the show are the meditative vocals. Rich in harmonic warmth and sublime melancholy, the performance, like all songs by The Sways, is impressively soul stirring.

On the track The Sways add: “‘Feels Like Déjà vu,’ as the title suggests, evokes a feeling of nostalgia, bringing back memories that are as lush and vivid... In these strange times, it’s a song many may find themselves deeply moved by.”

Some songs can be classed as masterpieces… some are a moment in time… and others are just flat-out bangers. “Feels Like Déjà vu” is all three. The track is taken from The Sways debut EP, which is out now. Connect with The Sways: Spotify | Bandcamp | Instagram
