Work Wife - “Apathy”

As the synth swells and the drums fade in, we prepare ourselves for “Apathy,” the latest release from Work Wife. A bit of slide guitar introduces the pleasant vocals. I have to say, I’m not apathetic, because this is a delightful sound and a cool, mellow vibe. It keeps building until it ultimately blossoms into a glorious chorus, with vocals relaying a beautifully understated sentiment: “This apathy is killing me. Anxiety, my heart is pounding.” Ah, relationship troubles do make for great songs, don’t they?

“Apathy” is a song for a rainy day, when you’re stuck inside, feeling half alone and half grateful for being alone. It’s like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds. It’s like when a rainbow is just beginning to form and the spectrum of color lightly washes over the gray. Ok, I’m getting off track here, but if you are listening with me right now, you are probably feeling it, too. A wonderful bridge brings things down, builds them back up, and finishes things nicely as the chorus repeats one last time. Ah, what a lovely tune. I hope Work Wife gets the message that I’m not apathetic. If anything, I care a bit too much. Time to listen again! Won’t you join me? But not physically… just hit play. Synchronize in 3, 2, 1…
