Windows - “High Sierra Lows” & “Long-While”

Founded in 2018, Windows have a sound that is suitable for all listening audiences. From California country and classic surf rock, to late ‘60s psychedelia and modern indie/garage rock, this band will completely blow you away– and it does not matter who you are or what kind of music you’re into.

Windows have graced our stack of submissions with a two-sided single and since we cannot decide which side we love more, we are giving them both to you. The first is called “High Sierra Lows” and if you’re a fan of Beck’s earlier work (late ‘90s), you will want to marry this song as soon as you hit play. It is sonically akin to both Beck’s craft and presence, but it is by no means a direct comparison– in fact, we feel kind of terrible for even bringing it up; through all the grittiness and thickness of this fantastically recorded rhythm section, Windows still maintain a sound that belongs only to themselves, made most obvious, in this case, by the vocals– they are bouncy and melodic, complete with a harmony that raises the bar for most of the other artists within the genre(s). And as you enjoy their effortless, over-driven flow during the verses, the syncopation on the hook is likely the part you will be humming for the rest of the day.

The flip-side (it could be side A, for all we know) is “Long-While,” a dreamy indie-pop/rock tune that beholds a robust guitar melody that is, in and of itself, worth the price of admission. The whole “Beck thing” that we mentioned before is completely out the window, as this thing flows and flies like some summer dreamscape, partly due to the slide guitar that soars across the roof of it. Windows have really taken an opportunity to show off their dynamics here– between the two tracks, the only real evidence that it is even the same band is the sound of the vocals and the stellar production. And this leads us to the very sneaking suspicion that an album is on the way. And while most bands are completely content with releasing a barrage of singles, this is one instance where an entire body of work, such as an LP, makes a great deal of sense. And after you hear “High Sierra Lows” and “Long-While,” we guarantee that you will agree. Congratulations on discovering two of your new favorite songs.
