Isadora Eden - “Haunted”

This is our first time hearing from Isadora Eden, but we have been made aware that she is keen on blending elements of indie rock, shoegaze, and gothic folk. And when we saw that her new album, forget what makes you glow, “evokes real life horror as it channels the not so great memories of religion, nostalgia, love and loss,” we knew her music belonged on the blog. And with that, we invite you all to celebrate her new track, “Haunted,” a dreamy pop number that is reminiscent of Soccer Mommy and Slow Pulp.

Haunted” begins quite bare and fragile, with a lo-fi rhythm beneath some delicate vocals and a synth pad. But at just over half a minute in, everything falls into place and the eminent hi-fi journey begins, allowing the listener to be carried away on a cloud of dream-pop. Eden’s voice is very soft and reflective, hitting all the right notes, at times causing us to recall (you’re going to think we’re crazy) Chino Moreno’s more emotional vocal work. But please keep in mind that “Haunted” bears no further resemblance to Deftones’ music.

This is typically not the type of song that we feature on the blog, but it is delivered in such a way that it cannot and should not be ignored. Eden’s talent for finding a melody makes even the most melancholic vibe seem as though it is some sort of blissful manifestation. And though we do not have a lyric sheet, it is not difficult to catch a few glimpses into the beauty of this darkness.
