Varas - “New Light”

New Light,” by Varas, is a fabulous new release which I have thoroughly enjoyed, and one that definitely makes me want to check out more of his catalogue. It is a charming song with a cheerful, experimental vibe. “New Light” is undoubtedly for addicts of alt-pop music production.

The song is about how strong the emotions in a new relationship can be. The lyrical structure gives a sense of a conversation between his heart and his head. There is an actual feeling of vulnerability, which is excellently expressed in the words and the way in which they are delivered.

The minimal but by no means diluted sound serves as the ideal counterpoint to his reflective words. Varas conveys this feeling over a head-nodding groove that is shimmering and echoing. Although this tune is driven by lo-fi percussion, there are some extremely creative dynamic breaks that are filled with samples, vocal effects, and pad riser noises. The track's main synth-led surface is supported by a throbbing bass that occasionally bursts into the foreground. “New Light” showcases an artist who is at ease with experimentation and is also really original and creative. This is great work!
