Thom Southern - “HEY WHAT’S HAPPENIN?”

Belfast, Ireland-based Thom Southern has just released the raw and energetic indie rock track “HEY WHAT’S HAPPENIN?

HEY WHAT’S HAPPENIN?” is propelled forward by a relentless sense of hypnotic energy, thanks to the pulsating and punchy drum beat. The mood is 100% indie rock, with an uncompromising intensity. Padding out this groove are the fuzzed-out, powerful, and gritty tones of rhythm guitar. These layers are delightfully utilized, creating a sense of contrast and ebb and flow. The track also has a lush hint of early punk rock, allowing splashes of distorted lead guitar to wildly evoke a sense of chaos and intensity.

Cementing the raucous vibes is the fun spirited and infectious vocal of Thom Southern. His indie rock delivery really sets the “HEY WHAT’S HAPPENIN?“ alight and makes the track effortlessly memorable. The vocals strikingly ooze a sense of spirit and a slight sense of mischief.

Speaking about the meaning behind “HEY WHAT’S HAPPENIN?“ Thom Southern explains: “For me this song creates a raw picture of two people who have never met before, who see each other and feel an overwhelming instantaneous connection. I wanted to present the song in a quirky loud way that felt humorous but at the same time applying totally in your face, fierce production to the music and keeping the song short in length to really capture that moment too. Growing up in Belfast I’ve always loved people from here’s unique way of saying things like ‘What’s the craic?’ and ‘Hey what’s happenin?’ so putting a little bit of Belfast inside the tune was a lot of fun too.”

HEY WHAT’S HAPPENIN?” is a bold and vibrant indie rock banger. The energetic instrumentation really packs a punch and demands your immediate attention.
