Jeffrey Martin - “There Is a Treasure”

Portland-based singer-songwriter Jeffrey Martin is back on the scene with his first album since 2017, entitled Thank God We Left the Garden. And as he readies his sails for quite an extensive North American tour, he has also released the truly heartfelt and stripped-back single, “There Is a Treasure.”

This track simply consists of Martin’s voice and an acoustic guitar, and while we are not known for featuring such sparse recordings on the blog, his lyricism paints an introspective picture that immediately and completely resonates with the listener. And once we heard the song, it consumed our thoughts to the point that we just could not shake it. Instead, we let it burrow its way into our hearts, turning on the tiny, little switch that allows us feel the world instead of ignore it.

There Is a Treasure” highlights Martin’s skills as a guitarist, as the finger-plucked rib cage of this song masterfully protects its vulnerable, lyrical heart. His voice is raw and untainted by digital sorcery, and it is not at all difficult to imagine this track filling the sonic space of the many venues that are about to be lucky enough to house it. As his vocal lifts into its upper register on the line, “The sun will rise like it always does,” we are teased with the sheer power that he possesses as a singer.

Be sure to catch the video for “There Is a Treasure,” which features footage of Martin, as well as folk artist Anna Tivel who will be joining the tour for a number of dates.

The tour is quite extensive– if you live within the US, there is absolutely nothing preventing you from catching Jeffrey Martin on stage:

Thank God We Left the Garden is due for release on November 3rd.
