The Narrative - “On the Ride”

As soon as we heard “On the Ride” from Nashville-based duo Jesse Gabriel and Suzie Zelden, aka The Narrative, we knew that it belonged on our blog.

This dream pop number immediately captivates the listener with a synthy, ear-worm hook, cast above a tightly bound, electronically-charged rhythm. And though we generally go for a more organic arrangement, the instant and veritable catchiness of the tune cannot be denied.

Zelden’s vocal arrives, smooth and reverberated as she encourages listeners to abandon the ‘what-ifs’ in life– to live free of regret and just enjoy the ride. Gabriel’s subdued voice offers a gentle harmony on the refrain, providing some width to the already chill AF soundscape. Layers of synth ebb and flow, letting us drift away from all of our earthly tribulations.

In our constant search to find music to accompany us on our late-night drives to nowhere, “On the Ride” checks off all the boxes. It has a delicate and carefree vibe that perfectly accentuates the message of the lyrics. And in its three-and-a-half minute duration, it takes you exactly where the title implies.
