Caleb J. Murphy - “The Hands I Got”

Dear music lovers, if you have never heard the voice of Caleb J. Murphy, you are loving music incorrectly. And after you’ve become enamored with his latest release, “The Hands I Got,” do yourself a favor and peruse his back catalogue, starting with “My Own Shadow.”

The Hands I Got” begins with the dark and buttery tone of an acoustic guitar, musically on par with the recordings from Gregory Alan Isakov, Old Sea Brigade, or any number of songs all over modern radio. For those of you who’ve ever tried to record an acoustic, you will know that this track is gold at only five seconds deep– and we would feature it on the blog for this sound alone.

That said, we’re very glad that “The Hands I Got” also contains the vocal work of Murphy. He has a very raw, emotional, and honest way of delivering lyrics and it’s the kind of voice that already sounds famous. It is warmly familiar and has the ability to make listeners believe every word as he tells the (somewhat embellished) tales of his former neighbors. It’s the kind of voice that you could hear all day and still never be fully satiated.

If you’re in the mood to catch a delicately stripped-back vibe, look no further than “The Hands I Got.” Pour yourself a cup of coffee, ease back in your chair, and let Murphy carry you away with his fantastic and rich storytelling.
