Andi Fins - “Signals”

From Germany, Andi Fins has just released the chilled and beautifully melodic “Signals.” The song is wonderfully stripped-back and comes complete with a great piano hook, hand claps, and a hint of bongos that form the songs opening groove. The feel of the music is charming and gives off warm, vintage vibes.

The song quickly transitions into the first chorus, introducing more musical layers with a nice bouncing kick drum and a hint of clean electric guitar. The dynamics gently grow and the slow groove led by the piano pulls you with it nicely. The groove is enhanced not only by the subtle guitar licks, but also by the great retro sounding bass that gives a good vintage foundation.

Dynamics are played with really well in “Signals.” The full drum kit dies away now and again, returning to that great piano hook and playful handclaps. The whole track has that old-fashioned warmth and the vocal enhances this nicely.

The vocal of Andi Fins, for me, gives off Velvet Underground vibes– not in terms of tone, but with the way that they are oftentimes fun and playful, making me think of albums like Loaded. There is a light heartedness that is enhanced wonderfully by the backing vocals, especially with their replying lines.

"Signals," by Andi Fins, is a really great little number. It just feels like a song from the early 1970s. It is charming, stripped-back, and infectiously catchy– definitely not one to miss.
