Eden Rain - “Terry And Julie”

Just two short months after releasing her EP, GUTTER VISION, London-based Eden Rain returns to our blog with the brand new single, “Terry And Julie.”

This superb offering to the world of indie pop begins with some of the most deliciously retro guitar that we’ve heard in quite some time, perfectly setting the vibe for the journey on which your ears are about to embark. A few moments later, “Terry And Julie” introduces a sweet, lo-fi beat that will require the immediate and automatic tapping of your toes, and likely result in its instant addition to your favorite summer playlists.

But the real reason that we’re here, flashing this song in your face, is, of course, these wonderful vocals. Eden has the brilliant gift of being able to deliver lyrics in such a way that listeners will become instantly invested in this tale of two fictitious characters, inspired by The Kinks’ “Waterloo Sunset.” Eden decided to further explore these two beings, and envisioned them “as a sort of middle aged crisis love affair where they’ve gone on to marry other people but they’re reconnected later in life and realising that they have feelings for each other…”

In its three minute runtime, “Terry And Julie pulls you through its peaks and valleys, allowing the rhythm to help the production soar when needed, but also dropping out for some welcome dynamic shifting. The “you boy, you boy…” hook is bound to get permanently lodged in your head, so proceed with caution, unless you’re like us and do not care that you’ll be singing it to yourself for days on end.
