Sun Kiss - “Cowboy”

Drawing influence from the likes of Chet Baker, Sam Cooke, Sade, Nirvana, and The Fugees, Los Angeles-based Sun Kiss has found the right formula to completely win us over with his latest cut, “Cowboy.”

This one has that sweet, vintage character that we so often seek in modern recordings, beginning with a quick drum fill before diving into the thick and creamy sounds of a full band production. “Cowboy” comes complete with a ‘70s flavor on the rhythm section and an electric guitar that is so vibey you will likely track down Sun Kiss for his effects chain.

The vocal performance has been layered in its entirety with a lower harmony, resulting in a robust, sonic experience that’s getting harder and harder to find, especially these days. The entire mood is so chill that you will feel the immediate need to add it every playlist you own, then share it with your friends to plant a flag for bragging rights that you discovered it first.

After the first hook, a piano throws in some playfully melodic keys, adding yet another layer to this already-bursting creation. The lyrics have a personal feel, but they are bound to flood the listener with a good dose of nostalgia, especially due to the vintage-tinged aesthetic.

This is the first we’re hearing from Sun Kiss, but we hope that the release of “Cowboy” implies that more music is on the way. Once you hear it, we’re confident you’ll feel the same, so open the windows before autumn completely chills the air, press play, and turn it up– your neighbors really need to vibe with this one as well.
