St. Catherine’s Child - “Leave a Light On”
Transatlantic indie folk/Americana artist Ilana Zsigmond, aka St. Catherine's Child, has just sent over “Leave a Light On,” a track from her highly anticipated debut LP, This Might Affect You.
“Leave a Light On” is an emotionally-driven, folk-lined slice of melancholia, bound to resonate with listeners who have developed a taste for the more sophisticated sounds. The song fades in with an atmospheric, otherworldly tone before making way for the soft strums of an acoustic guitar. The production is flawless, yet maintains a distinctly intimate vibe– one of which we cannot resist.
The highlight here is, of course, the authentic and magnificent vocal performance of Zsigmond, who has obviously been singing since birth. She effortlessly delivers breathy lines of lyrics that sound as though they are taken from a private journal. And although the song is wonderfully polished, it simultaneously sounds as though it is being performed right in front of you.
As “Leave a Light On” progresses, more instruments arrive, including a subdued rhythm section and ghostly swells from the lead guitar. By the time the track reaches its back half, the arrangement has expanded to the far reaches of the sonic landscape, effectively carrying listeners away on a weightless cloud of indie folk bliss.
This Might Affect You was recorded live with Mercury Nominated Producer David Glover, mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, and is now available everywhere via Shamus Records.
