Sister Void - “rewind”

Los Angeles-based Lindsey Nico Mann, aka Sister Void, bottles the hazy ache of California with the punchy dream pop track “rewind.”

rewind” is a punchy, dream pop banger tinged in melancholy, but is also a sky-reaching burst of life. Pushed forward by an exciting, hypnotic backbeat, the layers develop in a way that is reminiscent of Grimes during her Art Angels era, more specifically songs like “Flesh Without Blood.” But “rewind” is less chaotic, confusing, aggressive and unorthodox as it sure-footedly steps into the same power pop territories and glossy ear candy moves.

The music is laced with flawless, gorgeous guitar textures and retro synths that create a lush, mainstream sugary wash of pop nostalgia. If you heard the throbbing bass and drums in passing, it could very likely be mistaken for the rumble of a 1983 Cyndi Lauper track.

The velvety vocal is sublimely gentle and breathy as it delivers the catchy lyrics, creating a fascinating dynamic tension as it weaves through the kinetic energy of the music. It is vulnerable and intimate, acting as a soft lens against the tracks high-definition shimmer. It is hard as hell to make decent pop music, but Sister Void tastefully ticks all the boxes.

On the track, Sister Void adds that “rewind” “is about wishing you could go back in time and do things differently. It’s about wanting time back that you can’t get back so you could make different choices for a different outcome. For me, it’s about wishing I never gave my time to certain situations so that I wouldn’t have suffered through the pain I endured. It reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, where you want to erase certain memories so they don’t slow you down in the future.”

Immaculate sounding and incredibly catchy, “rewind” is a track that exists in that sweet spot between the bedroom mirror and the dance floor. Connect with Sister Void Spotify | Instagram | Youtube
