Siblings - “Handsome but Pitiful”

From the USA, Siblings have just released the gorgeously melodic indie pop rock track “Handsome but Pitiful.” The song has a playful, vintage finesse which reminds me of the early solo work of Paul McCartney.

Handsome but Pitiful” opens to acoustic guitar, which has a lush, light, and breezy vibe. A slow, swaying drum groove pushes the composition forward. This groove has a spirited sense of rhythmic modulation, infusing energy and change. Underneath, a vintage-toned bass punctuates the groove whilst adding a rich warmth.

As the track unfolds, more layers are introduced, which enhance the laid-back and whimsical vibes. It is these touches that remind me of Paul McCartney’s solo work prior to 1974. Piano lends a sense of animation with bright pulses or ascending piano rolls. Mellow horns add a cinematic charm and there are a few other unusual layers, which I cannot put my finger on to describe. The sonic palette is charming, inventive, and delightfully packed with grandeur.

The melodic vocal performance on this track has a striking sense of playful expression. The endearing delivery beautifully enhances the song’s sway and is supported by some really great backing layers. “Handsome but Pitiful” is a thoroughly captivating track; it is breezy, playful, and a true delight to behold, which will be obvious once you let it enter your ears.
