Rose Brokenshire - “type two”

Toronto, Ontario-based singer-songwriter Rose Brokenshire has returned to us with another serving of dream pop, entitled “type two.”

The song begins in a folksy manner, with the muted strings of an acoustic guitar filling the sonic space; however, listeners need not wait long before the arrangement populates, extending a dreamy vibe to the far ends of the soundscape. A lo-fi and vintage-tinged beat is utilized, providing some necessary momentum, but the sensation is so unbelievably chill that we suddenly have the urge to play “type two“ on a loop all weekend.

Brokenshire’s vocal performance is every bit as heavenly as we knew it would be (we’ve been waiting for her to send us a new song ever since we featured “Habit to Help”). Her delivery maintains a classic appeal, without pandering to any modern production tactics– “type two“ often sounds as though the only thing between you and her words is a microphone, which is a quality that always earns high marks with us.

An ethereal pad weaves its way into the production, reminding listeners why they call it dream pop in the first place. Bell sounds chime along with the vocal melody, almost xylophone in nature, as shimmering, reverberated guitar chords intermingle with the other elements. And while the song paints a portrait of hiking across Canada’s winter landscape, we have a feeling that this one will sound just fine pouring from your stereo in the middle of summer.

Please join us in spinning “type two” while we all await for Brokenshire to deliver more fresh tunes. In the meantime, you can connect with her across the vastness of the internet: Spotify | Bandcamp | Instagram | Facebook
