With an almost hypnotic soundscape and deep storytelling lyrics, Resa Saffa Park’s most recent single, “When Your World Turns,” is a haunting, yet beautiful song that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of depression.

A catchy drum beat serves as the song’s foundation and propels the music onward. “When Your World Turns” has a really great bass line, which gives the song a really nice pulse. The song is given an extra degree of depth by the delicate use of padding sounds in the background. The sounds are never fully audible, but they have a great, analogue texture to them, almost making the song have a drifting-like feel.

Resa’s vocals are subtle, but immensely powerful, and they have a soulful tone to their delivery, bringing authenticity to the lyrics. The backing vocals give the main vocal width and really enhance the song beautifully. The lyrics offer a moving meditation on depression, touching on despair and how it affects people who experience it. The song addresses the feelings of isolation and loneliness and how it is a widespread issue that affects many people.

Overall, “When Your World Turns” is a really beautiful song that has a bit of funk in it from the bass and drums. The lyrics are really well written and think this is definitely one to check out.

And if you like what you hear, Resa has been releasing singles all year! One of our favorites, “Heavy,” came out back in January and is a song that highlights her jazzy roots, with a vocal performance that will likely cause the listener to conjure some Amy Winehouse and Fiona Apple vibes– two of our most beloved vocalists of all time. Strewn across a soundscape of a vintage sounding guitar, the song gradually builds with deep bass and sparse percussion– but “Heavy” ultimately becomes a full production that beholds a dark, emotional mood about the mess that is love.
