Punk Rock Saturday!

Punk Rock Saturday has re-entered the chat.

It’s been a minute. And given the gravity of today’s political climate, we figured there’s no better way to process it than with some good, old-fashioned punk rock ’n’ roll, just as Mother Nature intended.

Let’s get into it.

Gottlieb – The Far Fallen Fruit

From Los Angeles, CA, anarcho-punk outfit Gottlieb gut-punch us with a brand new album, The Far Fallen Fruit. More specifically, the LP’s opener, “Pipe Bomb,” is an angry beast of an attention-grabber with a controversial song title that will likely land you on a watchlist for googling it. Then again, it’s also the kind of track you’ll want to inject directly into your earholes. In addition to this, the latest focus track, “American Blood,” permeates an early Fugazi vibe, though at a much higher rpm. The dynamic twists and turns showcase Gottlieb’s penchant for songwriting, and you’ll likely have a hard time topping this one. Mr. Dinkles – “Socialism Ditty”

Next, LA/Seattle-ish-based Mr. Dinkles arrives with “Socialism Ditty,” a sarcastic romp that echoes an entire generation “stuck between endless hustle and shrinking opportunity.” Geez, be careful or folks might start believing billionaires only care about themselves, AI is taking over, and home ownership is nothing but a pipe dream. But, I digress… A quick rhythm from the drum kit gets the wheels turnin’, with staccato guitar over the verses before letting all hell rip loose on the refrain. Between the gritty sonic texture and the ear-worm gang vocals, this one will get you where you need to go. “Socialism Ditty” will be the last single before the release of their new EP R.I.P.T., and if you have any remaining semblance of self-respect, pre-order it by clicking here. Big D and the Kids Table

Okay, okay… We didn’t forget about you ska nuts. Straight outta Boston, Big D and the Kids Table remind us not to wait to start living with “Right Now.” Even amidst all the social and political turmoil, this upbeat tune is our shining ball of fiery light. We wouldn’t call ourselves overly ska-savvy, but this firecracker of a group has one of the tightest horn sections we’ve heard all year. By the end of the track, you’ll be singing along with “I hope you cry… From happiness,” which is just double-edged enough to send to your ex. So if you like what you hear and can’t afford the medication to help tame your addiction to skankin’, you might want to pre-order their new LP The Good Ole American Saturday Night.
