Germany-based Philine Sonny has just released the dreamy, indie-rock sounds of her latest single, “Take a While.” The song follows her previous offering, “Drugs,” and comes ahead of the upcoming EP, Invader.

Take a While” opens with a grand sense of atmosphere, utilizing some reverberating and cinematic elements to draw in the listener. It is immediately ethereal and captivating, with delicate plucks from an acoustic guitar atop synthy cascades of sound. Moments later, a wide chord from an electric guitar sets the track in motion, and we are swept away on its gentle and chill rhythm.

Philine’s rich and soothing vocal delivery begins, soon joined by heavenly layers of harmonies. The verses are serene glimpses into her vibrant songwriting and listeners will be effortlessly swept away as the lyrics explore the need to be persistent, even if the goal seems unobtainable. The production of the chorus, however, is elevated by an uptick in momentum, resulting in an ear-worm hook that you will be humming for days on end.

Take a While” will leave fans of dream pop satiated with the celestial sounds of the verses, while connoisseurs of indie rock will find resonance in the refrain. Highlights include the mesmerizing layers of vocals that sweep in and out of the arrangement, as well as a powerful middle eight that showcases a tasteful guitar lead.

This is our first time hearing the wonderful sounds of Philine Sonny, but if “Take a While” is indicative of what the rest of Invader has in store, we truly cannot wait to hear the rest of the EP.
