philine - “green”

From the Netherlands, singer-songwriter philine has invited all of us to share a moment of clarity via her new single, “green.”

Philine gets things started with the warm and vibrant strums of an acoustic guitar, wonderfully imbuing the composition with a chill and meditative vibe. Her vocal is next to arrive, delicate and honest as she sends lyrics gliding into the ears of her listeners.

Before the first verse has the chance to end, she deploys a barebones rhythm that lends “green” a steady sense of forward momentum. And by the time the bass sinks into the arrangement, Philine is traversing her upper register with the remarkable sounds of the hook.

To round out the soundscape, some subtle, ethereal synth is deployed as a pad, as well as some clean, reverberating electric guitar. And although the song is quite simple in its structure, the divine sense of ebb and flow leaves “green“ resounding larger than life, resulting in a track to which you can return many times over.

About “green,” Philine adds: “I wrote “green” after experiencing a moment of clarity I had, when I was in the middle nowhere in the middle of a big corn field. It was a moment where everything seemed connected, and I realised that how we perceive the world, is what becomes our truth. If we look at the world from a point of curiosity instead of judgement, we can see the good in everything.”
