Perish - “Cool Guys”
Brooklyn-based indie rockers Perish have just released “Cool Guys,” the first single from their forthcoming self-titled EP.
“Cool Guys” opens to the pulsating sounds of bass guitar, deliciously gritty before a confident drum build emerges. Guitar chords ring out, providing the finishing touches to the arrangement, wonderfully lo-fi as the track nestles itself into our niche for indie rock.
The work of lead vocalist Katie Callihan arrives, meticulously multi-tracked and harmonized for infinite width across the sonic landscape. Her performance is akin to that of Adrianne Lenker and the earlier work of Sharon Van Etten, which just so happens to be our wheelhouse.
As “Cool Guys” progresses through its one-minute-and-forty-five-second duration, the rhythm fluctuates in a compelling nature, moving to double-time over the refrain, then splitting the track down the middle with a break. For such a brief tune, Perish have managed to include what many modern songs seem to lack: dynamics.
We hope you enjoy “Cool Guys” as much as we do and join us in anticipating the arrival of the band’s EP this Fall via Rue Defense. Connect with Perish here: Spotify | Bandcamp | Instagram
