OSKA - “Like a Song”

As she prepares for her trek to SXSW, Vienna-based Maria Burger, aka OSKA, has just released the extremely raw and evocative “Like a Song.”

The track begins with some lo-fi acoustic guitar, delightfully imbuing the soundscape with an intimate vibe that we are never able to resist. A thick coat of reverb has been draped across the production, resulting in a wide sonic experience that is best served through headphones, though we’ve found that it works just as well through your car’s stereo while stuck in Friday traffic.

OSKA’s vocal enters, light and dreamy as it glides through the sparse arrangement, receiving the same gloss of reverberation as the aforementioned guitar performance. Listeners do not have to wait long before they experience a layered harmony, which only seems to somehow add to the initial, exquisite intimacy of the track.

An electronically-driven, lo-fi drum pattern is deployed, instilling a sense of forward momentum, while also adding a bit of urgency. Still, “Like a Song” never abandons its stripped-back nature, allowing the guitars and OSKA’s tremendous voice to remain in the spotlight for the song’s duration.

About “Like a Song,” OSKA offers: “I’m describing feeling safe, sure, and light again in what feels like forever – light as a feather, as a child, just like a song.” According to the rumor mill, the arrival of this single could mean that another LP is on the way; rest assured that we will have more on that the next time we feature the talent of this rising Viennese artist.
