Oliver Ghoul - “Glue”

Oliver Ghoul’s “Glue” is a psychedelic, funk-infused composition that takes the listener into a strange and hypnotising world. From the very start, the collage of unusual sounds and shimmering guitar sets the tone for what’s to come. The warped guitar tones and funky bass line create a unique and engaging atmosphere that is further reinforced by the solid drum work.

The vocals are appropriately psychedelic, adding another layer of oddity to the song. I can only describe them as breezy, like Tame Impala. The unusual keys and foley sounds, such as laughter, add to the overall weirdness of the piece. The middle section takes a slight detour as the song dies down into a shimmering haze of synths, but quickly comes back to the main groove.

The lyrics are fittingly strange, enhancing the surreal atmosphere of the song: “Peering through my leaky monkey suit. Crinkling, crackling softly do I tread. Softly as teatime with the dead.” The distorted guitars in the final section serve as the perfect crescendo to the strange journey the listener has just been on. Overall, this song is a true feast for the ears if you are a modern psychedelic lover.
