Rod Coote - “Oceanside”

Australian Rod Coote recently released “Oceanside,” an uplifting indie folk song whose lyrics were inspired by Ernest Hemingway's novel, The Old Man and the Sea. Once we saw that, we knew it was going to be good– and it is completely brilliant. It opens with a doubled acoustic guitar and it doesn’t take long for Coote’s vocals to begin, causing you to quickly google him because you cannot believe this dude isn’t already famous. The track builds as it plays, adding first some bass, then some vocal harmonies on the refrain. Coote claims to have been inspired by Vance Joy, and this is musically clear once the second verse begins with the full band production, but, vocally, Coote manages to hold his own and we’re having difficulty drawing any obvious sonic comparisons. Coote has always dreamed of having a house by the ocean and this song is the perfect soundtrack to accompany that fantasy– and who knows… If we’re able to give him enough streams, he might just be able to make that dream a reality, so give “Oceanside” some love:
