Dragondeer - “New Dawn Get Down”

Dragondeer have just released the gorgeously upbeat and anthemic “New Dawn Get Down.” The song opens with whistles, setting a catchy and carefree atmosphere for the rest of its runtime. An infectious groove emerges as the song progresses, thanks mostly to the pulsing bass line, which is the stand out feature of this track. The drums form a solid, stripped-back beat and guitar stabs are utilized to enhance the swagger of the song.

As “New Dawn Get Down” progresses towards the chorus sections, the song grows dynamically. Drum fills and clean, shimmering electric guitar chords effectively build the tension. This is released satisfyingly as we enter the decidedly disco-like chorus. The bass here, once again, really shines as it nails a great groove. The addition of the whistling hook and percussive elements enhance the song’s contagious, happy feel.

As the instrumental break arrives, the guitar takes on a slightly grittier tone as it knuckles down on the track’s groove and the percussive elements, such as cowbell, offer ear candy as they are brought forward and start to pan around the audio field. The last chorus acts as a potent climax, bringing the disco-infused beat home with unmistakable intensity. The vocals develop dynamically and reach a pleasant crescendo, thanks to the nice backing layers. The entirety of the track exudes a sense of happiness and enthusiasm.

About the track, the band adds: “One of the inspirations… was the futurist movement in the early 20th century where groups of philosophers got together to plot burning down museums and the archaic ways of the elders. You’re often told you should listen to your elders and learn from history. We’re in a moment where their ideologies seem pretty dated and the new dawn is a hope for more progressive thoughts. There’s a line in the lyrics that says ‘linking arms through all the fights’ which means that change starts in your circle and we need to rise up collectively.”

New Dawn Get Down” inspires listeners to usher in a new era, thanks to its catchy melodies, brilliant build-ups, and disco grooves. The track is the lead single from their forthcoming record, Across the Waves, due out September 15th.
