MVSO - “Heaven”

For the past several months, we have been featuring every tune that Brooklyn-based duo MVSO have sent to us. And if you’ve yet to check out their music, we encourage you to do so as soon as humanly possible. Today marks the release of the last single before they ultimately reveal their new EP. It is therefore our privilege to feature “Heaven,” a sublimely touching journey through the melodious beyond.

Heaven” beholds a no-frills arrangement, primarily consisting  of acoustic guitar. The sweet sound permeates the sonic landscape, as though MVSO are offering a private performance in the comfort of your own living room or car or wherever it is that you find yourself upon pressing play. A thick sheen of reverb is present to provide dimension, lending a benevolently intimate vibe to the entire production.

The vocal performance is just as rich and vibrant as we’ve come to expect from the duo, polished in a thick melancholy that conjures a deep bout of introspection. The arrival of the harmony elevates the production to a dreamlike state, allowing the listener to drift through space, leaving all worries of the world behind for the song’s four-minute duration.

The overall sound is distinctly lo-fi, lending to its omnipresent sense of intimacy. “Heaven” enters the ears as though one of those magical moments where a song has been completely captured in one take. And if it were not for the eventual arrival of the deep bass and otherworldly layer of synth, we could almost swear that it was a live performance.
