Midnight Granger - “Hey Now”

Midnight Granger, from the USA, has just released the beautifully mellow and gentle “Hey Now.”

The song is built on top of a drum beat that has a nice, relaxed pace and great vintage tones. A deep bass pulses satisfyingly whilst some acoustic guitar lends a warm and gentle rhythm. Touches of piano offer simple but melodic musical lines. This is done really well, with a short solo segment.

As the song progresses, different layers are added, firstly with mellotron, which enhances the retro atmosphere. Shaker and tambourine provide a sense of movement while electric guitar and harmonica are subtly used to enhance the song’s texture and ambience. All of these layers are not complex or show stealers, but they beautifully create a mood and allow the vocal to take center stage.

Midnight Granger’s vocal perfectly complements the feel of the music by providing gentle, soft, and inviting tones. The performance is soothing and feels wonderfully effortless.

Hey Now,” by Midnight Granger, is a really lush and dreamy track, full of great vintage tones. I pick up vibes of Nick Drake and Andy Shauf from its simple but warm arrangement. You do not want to miss this one.
