Meadowlark - “Borrowed”

Meadowlark once again appear on our blog with their latest release, “Borrowed,” a fantastic, piano-driven number that delves into existentialism.

They claim that this track was “the most stressful and fulfilling recording session yet!" And given that “Borrowed” consists of three piano parts that were simultaneously recorded on the same piano, we do not doubt this. The reward, however, is substantial, as you would be hard-pressed to find a more delightfully mesmerizing and introspective tune.

Although the piano work is quite stunning, the vocals are the reason we fell in love with Meadowlark in the first place. And in “Borrowed,” the listener will find an exquisite vocal delivery that is wonderfully stripped-back and heartfelt. If you read the blog, you’ll know that we favor music with no evidence of autotune, and you will not find anything here but raw emotion.

As the song moves forward, more elements are added, widening its atmosphere, allowing the listener to float through the space that the song creates. The gentle and lo-fi beat that appears around the one-minute point is soon joined by some deep bass notes that ensure the emotional engagement and attachment of all who hear.

It is well known that we simply cannot resist vocal harmonies, so when those start to make their way to the surface of “Borrowed,” we are left in complete and total sonic bliss. If this is you first time hearing Meadowlark, prepare yourself to be moved.

Meadowlark adds: “We take absolutely nothing with us when we leave this planet. And we create so much suffering for ourselves by believing we can hold on to things or find ourselves in anything external. You're borrowing these things/people for a short amount of time, but one day they'll return and so will you. And just knowing that is so freeing and liberating, because you have no choice but to relinquish all control. The only real thing that exists now and forever is true love, what we're all made of - and that's timeless.”
