meg elsier - “sportscar [scrapped]”

Nashville-based singer-songwriter meg elsier has just released “sportscar [scrapped],” the lead single from the deluxe edition of her debut record, spittake.

sportscar [scrapped]” opens with a bit of ethereal ambience, wonderfully setting the dreamy vibe for this delicious spoonful of the indie rock variety. The sonic swell soon subsides to reveal a softly strummed electric guitar pouring a delicate foundation for elsier’s vocal performance. Fans of Blondshell and Liz Cooper will find themselves right at home with elsier’s pop-rock delivery– it is extremely modern, while also maintaining a firm grasp on the vibes of nostalgia.

The arrangement eventually expands into a full-band production, including authentic bass and drums that sound raw enough to convince the listener that they are being performed on whatever stage the mind can conceptualize. Layers of synth fall into place, pushing the the stereo spread to the far reaches of the sonic landscape. These areas are warmly juxtaposed with dynamic breaks, providing the track with a spectacular sense of ebb and flow.

If that were not enough, “sportscar [scrapped]” also boasts glorious textures of auxiliary vocals, which either provide a wall of sound or a rich harmony, depending upon where they are placed in the song. Combined, all of these elements have forced us to return to this tune for multiple listens– we anticipate that it will do the very same for you. Press that play button and find out.

About “sportscar [scrapped],” elsier adds that it “is a really interesting addition to the deluxe, specifically because 'spittake' almost had a completely different identity," meg reveals. "There was a time when I was playing with the idea of naming the album Check Engine Light On. The influence of cars and how they move you through life is something I didn’t realize was so important to ‘spittake’ until after I’d written it."

The full deluxe version of spittake will be available on July 25th via Bright Antenna Records, but you can now enjoy “sportscar [scrapped]” wherever you get your music. Connect with meg elsier here: Bandcamp | Spotify | YouTube | TikTok | Instagram | Facebook | Website
