Matt Sayers - “Coast to Coast”

Birmingham-based singer-songwriter Matt Sayers returns to us with the delicate, folksy sounds of “Coast to Coast.”

This track first enters your ears via some expertly finger-plucked acoustic guitar, wonderfully setting the stage for a scenic voyage through your emotions. Sayers’ vocal emerges, just as warm and soothing as we recall it to be, leaning into his listener in order to deliver this melancholic tale.

The verses within “Coast to Coast” provide a vulnerable sonic landscape, as the sparseness of the production leaves very few places to hide. And other than the distant swelling of an ambient layer of synth, it is very easy to imagine Sayers performing these sections in your living room.

The choruses, on the other hand, invite the company of a piano, softly churning out some chords over the top of the arrangement. The refrain also makes way for Sayers’ upper register, allowing further emotional intensity to permeate throughout your listening experience.

Sayers penned “Coast to Coast” for his grandparents, shortly after losing his grandfather, and it stands as a wonderful tribute to them. We hope that once you press the play button, you will be able to lose yourself within its gentle nature, as well as feel a bit closer to those you may have lost.
