Matt Holubowski - “My Burrow”

Canadian artist Matt Holubowski has taken his usual brand of music and given it more of an experimental edge, adding multiple layers of sonic color to a once folksy soundscape. His latest offering, “My Burrow,” is a fantastic and enchanting glimpse into his upcoming LP, Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn, which is scheduled to be released on March 24th.

In contrast to its subject matter, “My Burrow” begins quite happily, with a vibey beat and a fantastic melody akin to The Flaming Lips or Beck, joined shortly by a bass line that appears to be injected with the spirit of James Jamerson. The vocals come in on top of some crunchy synth and it is at this point that we knew this song belonged on our blog. “My Burrow” carries the listener away on a musical cloud that we have never quite encountered before and it is a fantastic evolution for Holubowksi’s former, more sparsely produced repertoire. If this is any indication as to the material that the album will possess, you should set a reminder for March 24th, when Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn hits the DSPs.

The artist adds: “This song is about wanting it all without putting any of the work in. Waiting around for something to happen to us. Waiting to become something. Waiting for success, for happiness. Waiting for our big break. Always wanting and waiting, but never searching and acting. Expectations that do not match reality is the ordre du jour here.”
