Marcus Paquin - “Until It’s Gone”

Marcus Paquin is a Montreal-based artist who is known mostly for his songwriting and production work for acts like The National, Local Natives, The Weather Station, and many others. 2022 marks the year that he has moved from the control room to the vocal booth, with two singles already under his belt, “The Way Forward” and “Something Beautiful,” and a brand new album. Like many artists, this change in scenery was part of his process in dealing with emotional pain, searching for some sort of catharsis.

To be honest, we did not know any of the previous information before deciding to feature Paquin’s latest track, “Until It’s Gone.” We were going to show it to you because it’s amazing, but, of course, now knowing that he’s had his hand in so many musical cookie jars, it makes sense that this one resonates so deeply. “Until It’s Gone” starts with a piano and Paquin’s soulful falsetto immediately joins. The message is quite simple and one that has been used in countless recordings over the decades– no one ever knows what they have until it’s gone– but the beauty here is that it’s being delivered to your ears in a way that seems very fresh. This is the kind of song that already feels famous– like the track you’ve always needed in order to slay some of your own emotional dragons. That said, Paquin could simply sing the words straight out of Christmas cards and we’d still line up to stream it.

“Until It’s Gone” is a long, hard look inside of someone’s emotional turmoil, only to see your own broken heart staring right back at you. The empathy many will feel from listening to this is much larger than music itself. Or maybe it’s the reason that music exists in the first place. Either way, you really need to hear this one:

There’s a video for it as well:

“Until It’s Gone” comes from Paquin’s latest LP, Our Love, available everywhere today!
