Lydia Luce - “Belly”
Upon the release of her new LP, Mammoth, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Lydia Luce delivers “Belly.”
“Belly” maintains that familiar raw and intimate vibe by which we have come to known Luce’s music, with layers of acoustic guitar delicately and melodically placed o’er the top of a thick, vintage-tinged rhythm section. It enters your ears like a dream and keeps you suspended there for its entire duration.
Of course, as expected, it is Luce’s vocal performance that completely wins us over here, just as it has in all of the other songs she’s sent over to us. Luce has been blessed with a voice that deeply and instantly resonates with her listener, whether roadtripping across the countryside or sifting through emotional turmoil.
This was the first song that Luce wrote for the new album, at a time when she was dealing with a great deal of chronic pain, adding: “This song is about being more than the state of my physical body… It’s also about being patient with ourselves as we heal.”
