A Different Thread - “Always Leaving”

Transatlantic duo A Different Thread have released the catchy, homespun ballad: “Always Leaving.”

Always Leaving” is a welcome slice of Americana wrapped up in a captivating, upbeat sheen. It is the type of composition that will have you singing, whistling or slow dancing along in no time. From the first to last note it feels instantly familiar but never veers into a Kinks-esque acoustic shuffle, or in the other direction of the Last Chance saloon.

It is a tender, old, sweet and effortless musical ballad built around charming honky-tonk piano tones, endearing harmonica and the toe tapping mid-tempo strut of bass, drums and sparkling acoustic guitar. You would be forgiven for thinking this was a live performance. It certainly comes across as a no frills, no overdubs record. That’s not to say that this isn’t polished or refined. This is not the unrehearsed clatter of The Basement Tapes but it is good old-fashioned honesty and good vibes.

Vocally we are treated to breezy, well-constructed singalong harmonies from A Different Thread’s Robert Jackson and Alicia Best. They interact really well together displaying emotion, expression and sophistication whilst remaining completely effortless. The lyrics too are filled with lush, instantly likeable and relatable nuggets that bounce off each other with rhyming poetic glee.

Always Leaving” is a brilliantly crafted track that is irresistibly vintage whilst sounding brilliantly fresh. This one will please all fans of Americana. The song is taken from the album, Over Again, which is slated to be released on May 1st.
