Melina Malone - “Lovers Sunday”

If Amy Winehouse were alive today, we like to think that she would sound a little something like Melina Malone’s freshest release, “Lovers Sunday.”

For connoisseurs of the sweet and soulful vibes of rhythm & blues, “Lovers Sunday” will crawl right into your ears and slow dance with your senses. And though this is a style of music not often explored on our blog, one cannot deny the vintage appeal that is immediately apparent as soon as you press play. From the way that the drums lock into the creamy goodness of the bass, to the vibrant and rich guitar licks, this song is both a throwback and a tribute to the men and women who pioneered the genre.

However, our reason for featuring this track is a selfish one, as we are constantly on the lookout for vocals that are even slightly reminiscent of the aforementioned Winehouse and, thusly, on the same page as Etta James or Nina Simone. And that is exactly what you will find once you hear the voice of Malone, especially when she hits that sultry falsetto. To be honest, even the subject matter is a bit outside of our wheelhouse, but with a voice and overall mood like this, we simply do not care.

Lovers Sunday” is one of those songs that future generations will look back upon as a staple for RnB and we are absolutely delighted to share it with you here.
