LORD & LAND - “What A Love”

When you press play on a tune from LORD & LAND, it is not at all difficult to imagine it as part of a film’s soundtrack, which is likely where you’ve heard them before. From the ethereal hums of a pulsating synth, to the wonderful plucks of an acoustic guitar, their latest number, “What A Love,” is bound to send you frolicking through the soundscapes of every song in their catalogue.

While the music here is expertly crafted, LORD & LAND always manage to completely win us over with their vocal work– and “What A Love” is no exception. We are unable to draw any immediate comparisons, but there is an emotional honesty in the delivery of the lyrics that is bound to result in goosebumps and a flood of nostalgia. You will simultaneously use the song to delve into an introspection so deep that it will also become the beacon that brings you back to reality. And this is all before the end of the first verse…

The falsetto on the refrain is a definite highlight that emerges as a distant kick drum starts to pulse. All the while, expanding in the background, the arrangement brews like a storm on the horizon. At the halfway point, a fully fleshed beat appears, guiding us through both the song and our own emotions. The layers of vocals on the dramatic ending are simply the bow that holds tightly together this gift of music, and we cannot think of a better way for you to spend the next three and a half minutes of your earthly existence– press play.
