Livingmore - “Places”

USA-based Livingmore have just released the warm and breezy shoegaze / dream pop number “Places.” The song is packed with gorgeous guitar tones and breathy vocals.

Places” starts with gritty yet warm guitar tones fleshing out the rhythm. The song is pushed along firmly by the drums, as a smooth bass line forms the foundation, forming a laid-back groove that is perfectly complemented by the lead guitar’s bright tones. The sound hazily shines across the arrangement, creating a sense of introspection. As the song progresses, a second guitar joins, which only enhances this auditory texture.

The use of synth pads during the chorus provides some fantastic dynamics and adds a depth and richness. This is contrasted beautifully with the stripped-back dynamic break that brings those breezy guitar tones to the foreground. For me, the main hook of the song isn’t within these well-crafted chorus sections, but in the two guitar solos that instill the emotion whist breathy backing vocals float over the top. The two guitars act like they are talking to each other, with clean tones calling out and fuzzier tones replying.

The vocals give the piece an ethereal dimension with their dreamy, airy, and lush tones. The two vocals harmonize throughout the song as they gently deliver the lyrics. Livingmore says that “The song is about trying to be in the moment. Being still and appreciating the tiny and seemingly insignificant moments that we sometimes take for granted.” “Places” expresses the importance of living in the present whilst wrapping listeners in a tranquil and reflective environment. This is the first single from their fourth full length album, The Garden.
