Leatherette - “So Long”

Italian post-punk band Leatherette have announced the release of their debut album Fiesta, due out on October 14th via Bronson Recordings. The first single, “So Long,” is a short burst of energy determined to slap you in the face.

The track kicks off with edgy guitar licks that quickly evolve into the hum of crushed chords over the lyrics, with a vocal that distinctively reminds me of the early ‘00s punkish-type songs. The drums drive this song along and when played loud, as any song in this genre should be, it is wildly addicting and infectiously catchy.

The band describes “So Long” as a song "about struggling to the point you feel you hit rock bottom. Screaming about it might not be the answer to the problem, but we must confess it was quite fun and liberating. Loud, acid, alien guitars and a punchy, hypnotic rhythm section were surely helpful to the process.”

This is a well-polished and melodic post-punk song with decent production, but it still ticks those boxes of aggression that we like to see in this genre. Absolutely none of the edges have been knocked off. Check it out for yourself!
