Thomas LaVine - “Crumble”

Thomas LaVine has something special for you in his latest single, “Crumble.” I just love it when a song does everything right in such a compelling way that it’s not something you consciously think about… it just makes you feel wonderful. Everything about this song is a yes.

Sonically phenomenal, LaVine transports you to the warmth in winter, the cool in summer, and the water in the desert. It is in this beautiful embrace that the listener is invited to mourn the loss of love and to yearn for all that is worth yearning for. When the chorus arrives, LaVine laments, “I’ve been living on the edge of somewhere I don’t know and it feels like it just might crumble.”

Guitars move along at a magical pace, providing an anchor for vocals that lift you up like a wave in the ocean. Additional instrumentation enters and exits with an unobtrusive pleasantness. It’s the majestic juxtaposition of the uplifting mood of the beautiful sound and the pensive lyrics that makes this luscious tune a reason to locate the play button and set it for repeat. It’s the sadness behind the smile. It’s the pain that they don’t see when we say that we feel fine. I think all feeling humans know this feeling (yes, I know I said feeling twice. I’m really feeling it), when the cold callousness of the world meets the sensitive soul. “You’re my harbor. It’s getting darker without you.” Yeah, things can get dark, but “Crumble” feels like a light in the darkness.
