Lara Taska - “You and Me”

Lyon, France-based Lara Taska has just released the gorgeous indie folk song, “You and Me,” an intimate, stripped-back ode to love and resilience.

You and Me” is built around the gentle groove of mellow acoustic guitar which imbues a sense of warmth and melancholy. Drums and bass are added to give the song a sense of depth and forward momentum. The bass tones on this song are to die for and have a lush, vintage texture as they deeply pulse throughout the arrangement.

As the song progresses, two more layers are thoughtfully added in key areas to heighten the sense of emotion and reflection. An unusual horn sound pads the track, lending a sense of melancholy whilst flourishes of dreamy electric guitar arpeggiate and riff, bringing a sense of wonder and intensity. When these two rich layers are allowed to intertwine, the folksy production becomes irresistibly captivating.

The vocals on “You and Me” are delivered with a soft intimacy. Taska’s breathy tones have a sense of vulnerability, as well as a tinge of soulful strength that really set this track alight. Lara Overall, this is a heartfelt indie folk track that has a rich and irresistibly vintage vibe. You will be left mesmerised by the genuine, intense passion conveyed through its intimate vocals and exuberant musical textures.

Lara Taska explains the inspiration behind the track: “Sometimes the world is a very sad and scary place, but can feel ok if you have someone to weather out the storm. I wrote this song for my partner who I have loved since I was 17 and during a time when all I had was him and all he had was me. I guess this is an ode to us: me and him against the world.”
