la loye - “everything, everything”

Netherlands-based singer-songwriter Lieke Heusinkveld, aka la loye, has arrived on our blog with her brand new, nostalgically-tinged indie-folk release, “everything, everything.”

The track is built upon a wonderful, piano-driven arrangement that instantly saturates the sonic space with introspective vibes. The bones of “everything, everything” have been fashioned from a lo-fi rhythm section, which gently urges the song forward and bears a reasonably heavy sense of melancholy. Strings ebb and flow in the distance, rising and falling as though taking deep breaths with the listener.

Heusinkveld’s vocal performance soon arrives, deliciously double-tracked to perfection and lovingly inspired by artists such as Elliott Smith, Mount Eerie, and Radiohead. Her voice gently eases itself into your ears as though poetry written on a breeze, and by the time the chorus arrives, she’s already won you over as a fan.

Synthy melodies are added and removed, displaying la loye’s delightful sense of textured dynamic flux. A remarkable vocal harmony arrives for the second verse, bringing a fantastic width to the soundscape. The final third of “everything, everything” is filled with a whirling melody of layered keys, allowing the track to end with an impact that steps outside of any preconceived musical boundaries.

everything, everything” is a song that is derived out of the entire notion of nostalgia, as Heusinkveld adds: “I’ve always been a big sucker for nostalgia. It sort of sneaks up on me from time to time and it can be such a place of comfort: to revisit your memories over and over. But the past is a fleeting thing in the sense that a certain place or certain people, certain feelings that I would long for no longer exist in the same way they did back when I was younger. And that’s a concept that was so hard for me to let go of. To me, ‘everything, everything’ has now become that place that I can go back to time and time again, knowing it will gladly stay the same.”

everything, everything” is now available everywhere, everywhere, and we hope that you will join us in spinning it. This is our first time hearing from la loye, but if she releases more of these textured morsels of melancholic vibes, we hope that she sends them directly to our inbox.
